Seven of our Sports Leaders attended a great event at Gateshead Leisure Centre on Friday. The event was to train some of the leaders to set up a School Sports Organising Crew (SSOC). The team will develop, organise and promote school sport and intra-sport competition. This important role means pupils will contribute to decisions about sporting activities and competition in school, influence school sport for their peers and organise sporting competitions between classes and houses.
During Friday’s visit, after playing a number of warm up games to develop pupils’ communication skills, our sports leaders made notes about what sport currently looks like at St Joseph’s and what qualities would a SSOC member require. Pupils identified the need to be committed, organised, supportive, understanding and encouraging.
also played some fun games to develop their organisation and leadership skills. They completed the session by designing a questionnaire about sports to give to children back at school and by starting an action plan, which they will complete back at school.
We can’t wait to see what our SSOC has in store for sports at St Joseph’s!
