A huge thank you to Mrs Lappin, our Chair of Governors, who came into school to teach a lesson all about religious signs and symbols used in our church, particularly around Easter time. The lesson also involved the children in designing and then painting their own version of the Paschal Candle – a large candle blessed and lit on Holy Saturday and placed by the altar until Pentecost. Each year, Mrs Lappin designs and paints the Pascal Candle for St Joseph’s Church and was very happy and pleased to be able to share her expertise with our Y5 class. The children really enjoyed the whole lesson and Mrs Lappin said that she was hugely impressed with the knowledge the children already had and how quickly they learnt in the session.

The children produced some very colourful and creative designs, incorporating lots of different Christian symbols as you can see from the photographs below:
