Year 4 returned to Palace Green Library in Durham to take part in a Viking workshop. During the morning sessions, the children explored Viking history by handling and evaluating various Viking artefacts, including some fearsome looking swords and axes. The class then explored some of the Viking exhibits in the museum and enjoyed playing a Viking board game called “Six Man Morris.” After lunch, the children wrote some Kennings and designed their own rune stones using the runic alphabet.
Charlotte said, “I liked doing the museum trail and learning about rune stones.”
Leighton thought it was a really fun day and his favourite activity was dressing up in a Viking costume.
Mr. Shields was also given a new joke by the workshop leader, Michael, to add to his collection.
Why do Viking longships have bar-codes on the side? So they can scan da navy in!
