Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, the whole school, together with St Joseph’s Infant School, walked to church for a Parish Mass led by Father Paul Hopper. It was a lovely way to begin the start of Lent and as we all walked back to school, we felt proud to wear our ashes and be witnesses to God and our faith. Father Paul’s homily reminded us that during this special time of the liturgical year, we should try to show more self-control and focus on ‘walking with Jesus’ throughout our Lenten journey by doing something extra (to mirror Jesus’ preaching and model the kindness he showed to others) or by giving something up, to show how grateful we are that Jesus sacrificed himself in order for our sins to be forgiven.

We have other collective worship and liturgies planned for the rest of this Lenten half-term, which will culminate in a special service of the Stations of the Cross in church on our Final Friday (5th April).
