On Saturday 9th June at 2.30pm, our parish of St Joseph’s Birtley held a mass for the Housebound arranged by the parish SVP group led by Peter Monaghan. Peter, who has been a keen supporter of our own school’s Mini Vinnie group, asked if our group would like to go along to support this event by reading at mass, carrying the offertory gifts and then helping with the afternoon tea party in the Parish Centre. Of course we jumped at the chance to put our Gospel values into action, not to mention the Mini Vinnie motto ‘Turning concern into action’ and I was so impressed to see such a great turn out. Altogether 18 of our Mini Vinnies members were willing to give up a glorious Saturday afternoon to come and share their time with some of the members of our parish who rarely get to Mass or parish events. We all had a wonderful afternoon (and did very well in the raffle too!) Thank you to all those who gave up their time to make this such a joyous and happy event.
