On Friday, a team of four pupils from Year 5 met up with children from all of the parish schools in our St Benedict’s Partnership, to take part in an afternoon of debating. St Robert’s Secondary school very kindly hosted the event which was also attended by Bridget Philipson MP (for Sunderland and Houghton), who was very impressed by both the dispositions of the children and the content of their arguments. Our pupils were asked to prepare an argument against the following motion: ‘Children over the age of 12 should be allowed to vote’. They’d prepared well and spoke very impressively, putting a number of arguments forward. Miss Allon said she was hugely impressed by their efforts and the confidence they displayed in their delivery. Well done to Alana, Ethan, Matthew N and Leni – we are all very proud of you.
