As you are aware, at St Joseph’s Junior School we take all matters regarding the safeguarding of our children very seriously and so today we have been promoting Safer Internet Day 2018 which is celebrated globally. This year the slogan is “Create, Connect and Share Respect: A better internet starts with you” to help promote the safe, responsible and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. The theme encourages young people to work together to be positive, safe and respectful online. In the UK the campaign will particularly empower young people to take control of their digital wellbeing and explore the opportunities the internet has to offer in a positive way. The campaign encourages young people to consider how they interact with others to develop healthy online relationships.
In school, ‘Online Safety’ is taught in discreet lessons as part of our Computing curriculum and as an on-going theme throughout the whole of the curriculum. In addition to this, every year we take part in the Safer Internet Day and this year Miss Allon and the School Councillors led an interactive assembly on the above theme, after which the children returned to their classes to complete a variety of follow up activities.
