On Friday 8th December, Year 5 and 6 had a very special visit from our local MP, Liz Twist, who came to visit as part of a Parliamentary Workshop. Liz talked to the children about her role in parliament and how she came to be an MP. The children also asked lots of interesting questions about her job.

Each class then took part in a workshop where they learned about how our government is run. Year 5 learned about how debates work in the Houses of Parliaments and how laws are passed. Year 6 then had the chance to create their own political party and prepare a manifesto and speech. With lots of interesting topics included in their manifestos, the results from the vote were tight but the party with the most votes was ‘The People’s Party’.

The children had a fantastic morning and showed fantastic enthusiasm towards the topics. Perhaps we some politicians of the future in our school!
