As part of their Creative Curriculum topic ‘Bridges’, our Year 4 class visit the Laing Art Gallery in Newcastle to take part in a ‘Painting with Watercolours’ workshop and to visit the galleries which had a special exhibition on the Tyne bridges.
“It gave the children the opportunity to gather inspiration for their own bridge designs,” explained Mr McCormick and also to practice some of their painting techniques. They produced some stunning work.”
The children will continue their studies in class where they will be designing and building their own bridges and then testing them for strength.
“Their challenge for the children is to design and build a bridge which fits into the local landscape, is imaginative and innovative in design but also practical. I’m looking forward to seeing how the visit to the Laing has inspired them,” added Mr McCormick.
